- Ambrose H. Pendergrast Fellowship: Named for a former professor in the Department of Chemistry, the Pendergrast Fellowship is awarded to an outstanding doctoral student in the area of medicinal chemistry/biochemistry.
- The Al Baumstark Award in Chemistry: The Al Baumstark Award in Chemistry, named after our former chair of 18 years, serves to honor the department’s philosophy of increasing student diversity in the field of chemistry. The Al Baumstark Award, was developed to support women and minority students who are pursuing doctoral degrees in chemistry. The fellowship is normally awarded each Fall semester to one senior level doctoral candidate per year. A nominee committee solicits nominations from department faculty and makes final selections with input from the Chemistry Department Chair. The Al Baumstark Award varies in amount and currently supplements Ph.D. stipends. Funding for the fellowship is made available through donations and lifelong endowments.
- David W. Boykin Graduate Fellowship in Medicinal Chemistry: The Boykin Fellowship was established in 1999 to honor the former chair of the Department of Chemistry. It is awarded to an outstanding PhD graduate student in medicinal chemistry.
