CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT ENDOWMENT OPERATING FUND – 02872
This fund supports our seminar program, which brings scholars from around the world to campus to lecture and meet with faculty and students. It also provides support for the Chemistry Awards program that recognizes students for excellence. The fund gives the department flexibility in recruiting students and has been instrumental in strengthening the quality of our faculty and our internationally recognized research programs.
Undergraduate
AL BAUMSTARK UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AWARD IN CHEMISTRY – 021244
As a faculty member and chair of the department, Al Baumstark championed research experiences for undergraduate students, especially students who would like to go to graduate school. The Al Baumstark Undergraduate Research Award in Chemistry defers the cost of tuition and provides a modest stipend to a junior and senior pursuing a degree in Chemistry.
BRADFORD SCOTT BEERMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – 020389
The Bradford Scott Beerman Memorial Scholarship commemorates Bradford Scott Beerman, a 2008 graduate of the Chemistry Department at Georgia State University, and his tremendous thirst for knowledge and honors his memory by helping future generations of students.
This scholarship supports rising seniors majoring in Chemistry with high academic achievement and demonstrated financial need.
Graduate
THE AL BAUMSTARK AWARD IN CHEMISTRY – 020289
The Al Baumstark Award in Chemistry honors the department’s former chair, Al Baumstark, for his dedication and services as an outstanding professor and the pathways he built for minorities and first-generation students to pursue graduate degrees in Chemistry. The award provides support for a graduate student majoring in Chemistry who is in good academic standing.
AMBROSE H. PENDERGRAST FELLOWSHIP – 02A38
The Ambrose H. Pendergrast Fellowship supports doctoral candidates in the department of chemistry and honors a long-time faculty member who taught, entertained, and mentored countless students, many of whom went on to distinguished medical careers. This fund provides a stipend supplement to a Ph.D. student specializing in drug discovery, biochemistry, and related areas.
ROBERT “PETE” PULLEN JR. SCHOLARSHIP IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY – 021075
The Robert “Pete” Pullen Jr. Scholarship in Analytical Chemistry was established by Robert Pullen to ease the financial burden for students interested in pursuing graduate degrees in analytical chemistry at GSU and help students achieve their goals of graduate-level education.
This fund supports masters or doctoral-level candidates. Recipients exhibit exceptional academic and individual achievements and financial need, with a preference for supporting nontraditional students.
Al Baumstark Chemistry Ph.D. Fellowship - 021643
The Al Baumstark Chemistry Ph.D. Fellowship provides support to a graduate student(s) in the Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts & Sciences at Georgia State University.
This fund provides scholarship support to graduate and Ph.D. students in good academic standing who are pursuing a degree in any area of physical chemistry and demonstrate a passion and commitment to the field.
HARRY P. HOPKINS JR. SCHOLARSHIP IN PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY – 021043
The Harry P. Hopkins Fellowship in Physical Chemistry honors the memory of a beloved faculty member and encourages students with a passion and commitment to the field of physical chemistry. Inspired by her own experience taking physical and analytical chemistry classes from her father, Katherine Hopkins hopes this scholarship will ignite the passion of future students interested in physical chemistry.
This fund provides scholarship support to graduate and Ph.D. students in good academic standing who are pursuing a degree in any area of physical chemistry and demonstrate a passion and commitment to the field.
