General Information applicable to all Chemistry courses:
Prerequisites
All prerequisites must be fulfilled before enrolling any Chemistry course.

Course Objectives:
All Chemistry objectives may be quantitative or qualitative, as appropriate for the learning outcome.

  • Students communicate effectively using appropriate writing, oral or signed conventions and formats.
  • Students participate effectively in collaborative activities.
  • Students formulate appropriate questions for research, effectively collect appropriate evidence, appropriately evaluate claims, arguments, evidence and hypotheses.
  • Students use the results of analysis to appropriately construct new arguments and formulate new questions.
  • Students effectively analyze contemporary multicultural, global, and international questions.
  • Students effectively perform arithmetic operations, as well as reason and draw appropriate conclusions from numerical information.
  • Students effectively translate problem situations into symbolic representations and use those representations to solve problems.
  • Students effectively use computers and other technology appropriate to the discipline.

Academic Honesty Policy:
Please refer to the Georgia State University Policy on Academic Honesty published in the On Campus: The Undergraduate Co-Curricular Affairs Handbook, available to all members of the university community. Therefore, all tests taken must represent your individual unaided efforts. To receive or offer information during an examination is cheating. Conduct or actions that disrupt class or test periods or falsification of information related to a chemistry course by any student will be taken as a violation of the policies of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and the GSU Student Code of Conduct, Section 6.0. Any suspected offenses may be referred to the Department Chair or the Dean of Students for appropriate disciplinary action.
Disability Services:
Students who wish to request accommodation for a disability may do so by registering with the Office of Disability Services. Students may only be accommodated upon issuance by the Office of Disability Services of a signed Accommodation Plan and are responsible for providing a copy of that plan to instructors of all classes in which an accommodation is sought.
Course Evaluations:
Your constructive assessment of each course plays an indispensable role in shaping education at Georgia State. Upon completing the course, please take time to fill out the online course evaluation.
All chemistry course syllabi provide a general plan for each individual course; deviations may be necessary.
If the current semester’s syllabi are unavailable, please view a previous similar semester. Class schedules will mainly remain similar with exception to the text used and other potential deviations.
