Chem Club 2003-2004

Each year, the Georgia Colleges and Universities share a series of seminar speakers over the GSAMS network.  The speakers below are scheduled for 2003-2004.  Don Harden will send out a sign up notice approximately 6 weeks before the seminar.  Those colleges wishing to receive the broadcast will decide on a mutually convenient date and time.  To receive the email announcements of the program, please contact Don.

Dr. Giovanni Gadda, Georgia State University
"Biochemical Investigations of Flavin-Dependent Enzymes"
Dr. Gadda's research involves the use of mechanistic and structural approaches for the investigation of chemical mechanisms of flavin-dependent enzymes.  Current research is focused on enzymes involved in the degradation of nitrochemicals (persistent environmental pollutants) and in the protection of bacteria from osmotic stress (an important aspect of pathogenicity).

Dr. Lihong D'Angelo, Coca Cola
"From School to Industry:  How to Prepare Yourself for the Real World"
Dr. D'Angelo is a senior scientist at the Flavor R&D Department of The Coca-Cola Company  Her responsibilities include sweetener and stabilizer research and development.  Join her for this popular program on approaches to getting a job and career advancement in industry.

Dr. Debbie Mohler, Emory University
"Chemical Modulation of Biomolecular Structure and Function"
The primary focus of Dr. Mohler's research involves the use of photoactivatable sources of organic radicals to modify biomolecules.  Specific goals include the cleavage of DNA, the footprinting of DNA and the functionalization of protein side chains.  Dr. Mohler will review her latest research.
