The Atlanta High Field NMR Facility houses Varian 500 MHz and 600 MHz Inova spectrometers. Both instruments have gradient and triple resonance capabilities. This facility is under the direction of Dr. Dabney Dixon , and is managed by Dr. Sekar Chandrasekaran (shown below). The facility has been funded through a National Science Foundation Academic Infrastructure grant towards the purchase of the 500 MHz NMR spectrometer and through a Georgia Research Alliance grant towards the purchase of the 600 MHz spectrometer. Matching funds from Georgia State University and Georgia Institute of Technology were used to complete the purchase; Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Marietta, Georgia has also provided support for this facility.
The Chemistry Department also operates a Varian Unity+300 MHz instrument, Bruker Avance 400 MHz, 500 MHz and 600 MHz spectrometers with a cryoprobe for the 500 MHz instrument (TXI with z gradient) , and a Hitachi R-1200 60 MHz continuous wave NMR spectrometer. Researchers also have access to the NMR facilities at the University of Georgia. Users with high field requirements may also have access to the 800 and 900 MHz instruments at the University of Georgia in the regional facility under the direction of Dr. Jim Prestegard.
