Master of Science
The Department of Chemistry administers a masters program with thesis and non-thesis options. The program awards an M.S. in Chemistry with specializations in the following areas:
- Biochemistry
- Organic/Medicinal
- Analytical Chemistry
- Physical
- Computational
A Bioinformatics Option is available in each of the areas.
THESIS:
A. 26 hours of CHEM 6000 and/or CHEM 8000 level courses of which 8 hours may be taken in a related field.
B. 2 hours of CHEM 8800 (Seminar) are required as part of the 26 hours
C. Proficiency in a Research Skill/Foreign Language
D. General Exam: Complete the required coursework with a “B” or better from three of the five areas
- Analytical
- Biochemistry
- Inorganic
- Organic
- Physical
E. Research: Minimum of 6 hours of 8999 required
F. Approved Thesis (oral defense)
NON-THESIS:
A. 36 hours of CHEM 6000 and/or CHEM 8000 level courses of which 8 hours may be taken in a related field.
B. 1 hour of CHEM 8800 (Seminar) is required as part of the 36 hours
C. Proficiency in a Research Skill/Foreign Language
D. Research: Minimum of 3 hours of 8910 required
E. Non-thesis research or literature reveiw paper
