Chem 1211K is the prerequisite for all Chemistry and Biology courses at GSU. To register, you must take a required 45-minute diagnostic chemistry test administered by the Chemistry Department on campus at selected times (no fee for test; please bring non-programmable calculator and #2 pencil).
Who must take the test? All except students
with a chemistry AP score of 2 or better or an SAT subject score of 600
or better or completion of a college-level chemistry course.
Transient students enrolled at other universities do not have to take
the test. Transient students should call 404-413-5500 for
authorization to register for Chem 1211K.
Post Baccalaureate students do not have to take the placement test. Post Baccalaureate students should call 404-413-5500 for authorization to register for chemistry 1211K.
Please call 404-413-5500 if you think you may be otherwise exempt from taking
this test.
How can I prepare? Take the practice placement exam.
How long? about 1 hour
When? Where? You may register for a test session below. Please be on time. Students who do not show up on time for his or her scheduled testing date may be at risk of losing their spot to a student who is on the waiting list and on time. Should you arrive after the exam begins then you will need to reschedule to take the test at a later time.
What to bring? Your PantherID number is required. Please have this information on exam day. Also bring #2 pencils and a non-graphing calculator.

How soon will I get my results? Please check your GSU student email account within 2 days. Should you not pass the exam, you will be notified via email with what your next steps should be.
When and how to register for Chem 1211K? All who pass the test
will be cleared to register for Chem 1211K (Principles of Chemistry I). Those who do not pass will receive a
follow-up e-mail to their GSU student email account with the next steps available to them.
The test date that I need is full, what should I do? Please contact the undergraduate coordinator at 404-413-5500 to be placed on the waiting list. The waitlist will be honored on a first call, first serve basis.
