Forensic science, the application of scientific principles to criminal and civil laws within a criminal justice system with the goal toward the establishment of guilt or innocence, has had an enormous impact on the definition and enforcement of the laws enacted to regulate society.  Aspects of forensic science involving the examination of physical, chemical, and biological items of evidence will be explored.  This workshop will provide the participants with an opportunity to expand their understanding of forensic science and to extend their knowledge of forensic science to essentially all aspects of undergraduate instruction in chemistry.

Each participant, an alum of a previous workshop, will be expected to participate in the design and development of this workshop.  As a reunion of sorts, each participant is expected to bring some aspect of their previous involvement with forensic science to the workshop to share with the other participants.  Activities such as experiments, demonstrations, case studies, etc. will help broaden the scope of forensic science for all.  Alumni from previous CWCS forensic workshops are encouraged to contact Professor Kaplan about participating in this workshop before applying.
